Did you ever have to provide actual documentation for family gifts, or was a written note enough? I’ve heard some lenders are stricter than others, especially with FHA loans...

- Lenders definitely vary. With my FHA, they wanted a full paper trail for any gift funds—gift letter, bank statements from both sides, the whole nine yards.
- For small Venmo stuff, they just asked for explanations, not docs. But anything labeled as a "gift" over $500 got the microscope.
- It’s a pain, but honestly, once you get through it, you’ll feel like you can handle anything. Stick with it—the hoops are annoying, but it’s doable.

Yeah, I had a similar experience. My lender wouldn’t budge on the documentation—even for gifts from immediate family. Honestly, a simple note wasn’t enough. They wanted to see where every dollar came from. It’s overkill sometimes, but I get why they’re strict. Just be ready to dig up old statements and have your donor do the same.
