Honestly, I get where you’re coming from about “too good to be true” rates, but I’ve actually had some luck with online lenders. Sometimes they really do have lower overhead, so their rates can be better—at least in my experience. The key is what you said:

“Ask for a Loan Estimate (LE) from every lender, online or local.”
Comparing those side by side has saved me a headache more than once. I’d just add, don’t write off online options completely. Just gotta stay sharp and read the fine print.

Yeah, I’ve been burned by “too good to be true” before—turns out, it usually is. But I’ll admit, last time I refinanced, the online lender actually beat my local guy by a quarter point. Still, I read that LE like it was a contract for my soul... sneaky fees love to hide in the fine print.

I hear you on the fine print—those “junk fees” can really sneak up. I’ve seen folks get lured by a low rate, then get slammed at closing. Did you find the online lender’s process more transparent, or just faster? Sometimes speed comes at the cost of clarity.

- Gotta admit, the online lender was lightning fast—almost too fast.
- Transparency? Meh, kinda hit or miss. They gave me a slick dashboard, but the devil’s in the details.
- I still had to dig for the “processing fees” and “doc prep charges” buried in the disclosures.
- In-person, at least I could grill someone face-to-face when stuff didn’t add up.
- Online’s great if you’re organized and don’t mind reading the fine print... twice. Otherwise, you might get blindsided by those sneaky extras.
- Learned the hard way: speed’s nice, but clarity saves you cash.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from about the hidden fees online, but I’ve had in-person lenders slip in “miscellaneous” charges too—just with more paperwork and small talk. At least with online, I can screenshot everything and compare side by side. Still, you’re right, it’s easy to miss stuff if you’re not careful.
