But does anyone else wonder why these portals don’t just show a simple checklist or upload tracker?

Totally agree—a checklist would make life so much easier. Here’s what I see a lot:

- Lenders often use third-party platforms, and not all of them sync perfectly with their own systems. That’s why you sometimes get asked for the same doc twice.
- Some underwriters want docs in a specific order or format, so if it’s not labeled exactly right, they’ll request it again.
- I’ve seen clients get tripped up by “missing” docs that were actually uploaded, just not tagged correctly.

Honestly, keeping your own folder is still the best backup. Tech’s great... until it isn’t.

Yeah, I’ve had seniors get super frustrated with these portals. One client uploaded her pension statements three times because the system kept “losing” them. Honestly, I just tell folks to email me the docs directly and I’ll handle the upload mess. Less stress all around.

Totally get you there. Those portals can be a nightmare, especially for folks who aren’t used to tech or don’t have the patience for glitchy systems. I’ve had clients call me frustrated because they thought they did it right, but nothing showed up on my end. Here’s what I do:

- I’ll take docs by email or even snail mail if that’s easier—whatever keeps things moving.
- Sometimes I’ll just walk them through it over the phone if they’re set on using the portal.
- Honestly, half the time I end up re-uploading stuff myself anyway.

Streamlining this part makes the whole process smoother for everyone. Not sure why these portals are so unreliable, but it’s pretty common in our industry...

Honestly, I’ve wondered the same thing about those portals—sometimes it feels like they’re more trouble than they’re worth. When I refinanced last year, I had to upload the same pay stub three times before it finally “took.” Made me question if it was user error or just a buggy system. Out of curiosity, do you think lenders actually review docs faster when they come through the portal, or is it just for their convenience? I ended up emailing half my stuff anyway because I didn’t trust the uploads.

I’ve run into that too—those portals can be finicky. Last time I was closing on a property, I had to double-check if my W-2 even showed up. Honestly, I think the portals are more for the lender’s workflow than actual speed. Still, once you get past the glitches, at least the docs are all in one place… in theory. Don’t blame you for emailing just to be safe.
