Couldn’t agree more about the “hidden behind the walls” bit. I once bought a duplex thinking I’d just need to patch some drywall and paint... then found out half the wiring was original cloth-wrapped stuff. Ended up costing a fortune, and honestly, if I’d just paid for a thorough inspection upfront, I’d have saved myself months of headaches. It’s tough swallowing those fees, but man, they’re cheaper than gutting a kitchen because you missed something major. We all get burned at least once—just part of the game, I guess.

That hits home. I once skipped the sewer scope on a 60s ranch—figured the pipes “looked fine.” Ended up with a collapsed line under the driveway six months later. That repair cost more than my down payment. Inspections feel like a pain in the wallet, but skipping them can be brutal. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way...

Man, that’s rough. Sewer lines are the sneakiest money pits—nobody ever thinks to check them until it’s too late. I get why people grumble about inspection fees, but in my experience, the “it looks fine” approach rarely works out. Ever seen what happens when someone skips a roof inspection and finds out mid-rainy season? Not pretty. Curious though, did your inspector mention the sewer scope or was it just an add-on you skipped? Sometimes those “extras” save your bacon...

Yeah, I learned the hard way with a busted sewer line at my first place. Thought I was saving money by skipping the scope—ended up shelling out way more for repairs. Those “optional” inspections aren’t really optional if you ask me. Funny how the little stuff adds up fast...

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually skipped a couple of those extra inspections and lucked out—maybe just got lucky, who knows. Do you think it’s always worth the extra upfront cost, even if the house seems newer or well-maintained? Sometimes I feel like inspectors try to upsell every little thing...
