I had a client once who got asked for proof of a Netflix subscription—like, how does that factor into a mortgage?

Honestly, I get the frustration, but sometimes these oddball requests are about verifying consistent spending or confirming addresses. Is it overkill? Maybe. But with all the fraud out there, lenders are just covering their bases. I do wonder if some underwriters just toss in random asks to see what sticks, though... Ever notice how one lender’s “must-have” is another’s “never-asked-for”? The inconsistency drives me nuts more than the paperwork itself.

Yeah, I've run into this too—one lender wants every single monthly subscription statement, another couldn't care less. It’s wild how there’s no standard. I get the need for fraud prevention, but sometimes it feels like they’re just fishing for reasons to slow things down. Had a deal last year where they asked for proof of a Spotify account… not even kidding. Makes you wonder if they’re just bored or what.

Honestly, it’s a circus. Best way I’ve found to deal with it is to keep a digital folder with every possible statement and bill—utilities, subscriptions, you name it. Saves headaches when they throw random requests your way. Still wild they want Spotify though...
