I’ve seen people have to write letters about birthday money from grandma. It’s not fun for anyone, trust me.
Yeah, the documentation requests can get pretty wild. I once had a client who had to explain a $25 deposit from selling an old bookshelf on Facebook Marketplace. They were baffled—like, “Do I really need to write a letter about this?” It feels nitpicky, but lenders are just covering every base these days. Hang in there, it’s frustrating but you’re definitely not alone in the paperwork maze.
Honestly, I get why it feels over the top, but I don’t think it’s always just lenders being nitpicky. Sometimes those “random” deposits can actually flag bigger issues for underwriters, especially with all the anti-fraud stuff going on. Like you said,
It’s a pain, but I’d rather deal with a few extra forms than have my loan delayed because something looked off. Still, I wish there was a less tedious way to do it...“lenders are just covering every base these days.”
