I've been reading up on ways to tackle my credit card debt, and two methods keep popping up: the snowball method (paying off smallest debts first) and the avalanche method (tackling highest interest rates first). Snowball seems motivating cuz you get quick wins, but avalanche makes sense mathematically. I'm kinda torn... anyone tried either of these? Curious which one worked better for you and why.

I've tried both methods at different points, and honestly, it depends on your personality. Avalanche saved me more money overall because of the interest savings, but I found myself losing steam halfway through—it felt like forever before seeing real progress. Snowball was way better psychologically for me; knocking out those smaller debts early kept me motivated. Maybe ask yourself: are you more driven by numbers or by visible progress?

I totally get what you're saying about the avalanche method feeling like it drags on forever. When I first bought my house, I tried avalanche because, you know, math... but after months of barely seeing any debts disappear, I switched to snowball. Sure, maybe I paid a bit more interest overall, but man, crossing those smaller debts off the list felt SO satisfying. Kept me from losing my mind, honestly.

Haha, totally feel you on the math vs. motivation thing. Avalanche is great on paper, but debt payoff is like dieting—if you don't see quick wins, it's easy to lose steam. Snowball method keeps morale high...and sanity intact. Whatever keeps you going is usually the best bet.

Gotta say, the dieting analogy is spot-on. Tried avalanche first cuz I'm a numbers nerd, but honestly, it felt like watching paint dry—slow and kinda depressing. Switched to snowball and knocking out those smaller debts felt like finally clearing out that junk drawer in the kitchen... oddly satisfying and motivating enough to keep going. Math aside, whatever keeps you from rage-quitting your budget spreadsheet is probably the winner here.
