Honestly, I used to think the VA appraisal was basically an inspection too, but after buying my last place, I learned the hard way that it’s not. The appraiser barely looked at the roof, and a few months later... surprise, leaks everywhere. That $400 for an inspection felt like a lot at the time, but compared to what I paid to fix things? Kind of wish I’d just bit the bullet up front. Anyone else ever feel like home buying is just a series of expensive “surprises”?
