Had something similar pop up last-minute once—turned out it was buried in the fine print as an "administrative" charge. Now I always request a full breakdown of fees upfront. Definitely worth double-checking everything before signing off...

Yeah, learned that lesson too. Even with a detailed breakdown upfront, some lenders sneak in vague terms like "processing" fees. Best to question anything ambiguous—I've caught a few charges that way before they hit my wallet.

Totally agree with this. A couple extra things I've noticed:
- Watch out for "administrative" fees too—sometimes they're just processing fees in disguise.
- Always cross-check the final numbers against the initial estimate. I've seen discrepancies pop up last-minute, and lenders often shrug it off as "standard adjustments."
- If something feels off or unclear, don't hesitate to ask for clarification in writing. Saved me from surprise costs more than once...

Good points, but I'd approach the "administrative fees" bit slightly differently. From my experience, not all admin fees are necessarily shady or disguised processing charges. Sometimes they're genuinely tied to third-party paperwork or title transfer tasks that lenders have to outsource. The key isn't always to challenge these outright, but rather to ask specifically what each admin fee covers. If they can't clearly explain it, that's when alarm bells should ring.

"Always cross-check the final numbers against the initial estimate."

This is solid advice, but keep in mind sometimes legitimate adjustments do happen—like property taxes or insurance premiums getting recalculated closer to closing. It's more about understanding *why* numbers changed rather than expecting them to remain identical. I've found that calmly asking for a line-by-line breakdown usually clears things up pretty quickly.

Fair enough, but honestly, even when they explain admin fees clearly, it can still feel like paying extra for guac at a burrito place—technically legit, but kinda annoying. Last time I transferred my mortgage, the lender broke down every fee beautifully... and yet I still ended up googling half of them at 2 AM wondering if "document preparation" was code for "intern hitting print." Sometimes clarity doesn't equal comfort, ya know?
