I recently switched my mortgage over to a new lender and it was surprisingly less painful than I expected. Basically, I first checked my current mortgage terms for penalties, then shopped around comparing rates and fees. After picking one, I submitted an application, provided docs, and the new lender handled most of the paperwork. Whole thing took like 4 weeks. But I'm curious if anyone has a smarter or quicker way to do this?

Four weeks sounds about right, honestly. When I switched mine last year, it was pretty similarβ€”maybe a touch quicker at around three weeks, but I think that was mostly luck and timing. One thing that helped speed things up for me was having all my docs scanned and ready beforehand. Also, keeping open communication with the new lender's rep really smoothed things along. Glad it went smoothly for you too... switching mortgages can feel daunting at first but usually ends up being worth it.
