I get where you're coming from, but I have to say, putting a little extra toward the mortgage can sometimes act as a safety net in itself. If you ever need to tap into that equity down the road, it's there—just takes a bit more paperwork. I do hear stories like your buddy’s, though. That’s tough luck. Still, sometimes I wonder if keeping too much in cash means missing out on building that home equity faster.
I’d rather pay a bit more interest and not sweat every weird noise my car makes.
Fair point, but isn’t there a middle ground? Maybe keep a solid buffer, but still chip away at the principal when possible. Just a thought—curious if anyone’s found that balance works for them.
