I was chatting with my neighbor yesterday, and he told me something pretty wild. Apparently, his homeowners insurance covered damage from a meteorite strike. Like, seriously? I laughed at first, thinking he was pulling my leg, but nopeβ€”he showed me the fine print. It actually listed "falling objects," including meteorites. I mean, what are the odds of that happening anyway?

Got me curious though, so I started poking around online and found out some other bizarre stuff that homeowners policies might cover. For instance, did you know some policies cover damage caused by riots or even volcanic eruptions? Volcanic eruptions! I'm nowhere near a volcano, but hey, good to know I'm covered just in case one spontaneously appears in my backyard.

Also stumbled across something about spoiled food coverage if your fridge breaks down due to a power outage. Wish I'd known that last summer when our fridge decided to die right after a big grocery run...ugh.

But then again, there are some weird exclusions too. Like floodsβ€”most standard policies don't cover flooding from natural disasters like hurricanes or heavy rains. Learned that the hard way when my cousin's basement turned into an indoor swimming pool after a storm.

Anyway, now I'm wondering what other oddball things might be hiding in our policies. Anyone else ever discover something surprising (or frustrating) about their coverage? Or maybe had to use their policy for something totally unexpected?
