You nailed it—those “standard” fees can feel like a moving target, and it’s totally valid to want each one explained. I’ve noticed that the more questions you ask, the less likely you are to get hit with random charges. It’s not being difficult; it’s just being smart with your money. I always tell friends to compare every document side by side, even if it feels nitpicky. Why should we pay for outdated processes like courier fees when everything’s digital now? If you’re respectful but persistent, you might be surprised at what gets waived or reduced. It’s your closing—no harm in making sure every dollar makes sense.

Honestly, I thought I was being paranoid when I started questioning every line on my closing docs, but turns out half the stuff was negotiable. My agent rolled her eyes at my “courier fee” questions, but hey, $45 is $45. Why pay for a fax in 2024?

You’re not alone—those “processing” and “courier” fees are like the junk drawer of closing costs. I once got charged $60 for “document prep,” which turned out to be someone clicking print. If you don’t ask, they’ll just keep adding stuff. I say question everything, especially when your credit’s on the line and every dollar counts.

That’s wild. I remember seeing a “mailing fee” on my closing docs and thinking, what are they mailing—gold-plated paper? I asked about it and they actually knocked it off the list. It’s kind of like playing whack-a-mole with fees... one pops up, you smack it down, another appears. Definitely pays to be a little nosy when your wallet’s involved.

Totally get this. I’ve learned to:

- Ask for an itemized breakdown before signing anything—sometimes they’ll just remove random charges if you question them.
- Watch out for “processing” or “convenience” fees too. Had a $45 “courier fee” once and the docs were emailed.
- Not all fees are negotiable, but it never hurts to ask. Worst they can say is no, right?

It’s wild how much of this stuff is just... made up. If you don’t push back, you’re basically paying for someone’s lunch.
