Yeah, I’ve been there. When I bought my house, they questioned a $20 Venmo from my sister labeled “pizza night.” Had to send screenshots and everything. It’s wild how much scrutiny even the smallest deposits get, but I guess that’s just the process now. Hang in there—it’s annoying, but it does end eventually.

Yeah, it really does feel like every dollar is under a microscope these days. When we closed on our place last year, they flagged a $35 PayPal from my mom for “dog treats”—and I had to dig up a text thread to prove it wasn’t some secret loan. Did you ever wonder if they’re just looking for any excuse to slow things down, or is it really all about anti-fraud rules? Sometimes I think lenders take it a bit too far, but then again, maybe it’s just the world we live in now.

Still, you’re right—it’s mostly just paperwork and patience. Once you’re through it, nobody cares about your pizza nights anymore. Worth it in the end, even if it feels ridiculous at the time.

I’ve seen underwriters ask for explanations on birthday money from grandma. It’s mostly compliance, but yeah, sometimes it feels like they’re just testing your patience. Did you ever get the sense they actually read all those explanations?

Honestly, I’m convinced they just skim those explanations for keywords and move on. I once had to explain a $20 Venmo from my cousin labeled “pizza night”—like, what kind of secret loan is that? I get that it’s compliance, but sometimes it feels like they’re just collecting paperwork for the fun of it. Still, I’d rather jump through a few hoops than have them miss something important. Just wish the hoops weren’t so tiny.

- Been there. Had to send in a screenshot for a $15 Zelle labeled “dog food.” Lender flagged it like I was running a side hustle in pet supplies.
- The hoops are tiny, but at least they’re not on fire... yet.
- Honestly, I’d rather over-explain than have my closing delayed. Still, the process feels like a scavenger hunt for receipts.
- If you’re buying in Dallas, just expect to justify every $10 transfer. It’s wild, but it’s the game.
