Yeah, it’s wild how inconsistent underwriters can be. One time I had a client who got asked for a letter from their landlord’s neighbor—totally random. But you’re right, if you’ve got your paperwork in order, it’s manageable. Just expect some hoops and don’t take the odd requests personally. The “scavenger hunt” description is spot on.

Sometimes it feels like underwriters are just making up new hoops as they go along.

But here’s the thing: if you’re organized and have your documentation ready, it’s usually just a matter of patience. The requests might seem random or even a little invasive, but they’re rarely deal-breakers. I do think the inconsistency is a problem, though. It’d be a lot less stressful for buyers if there was a clear checklist instead of this scavenger hunt vibe. Still, as long as you expect a few curveballs, it’s totally doable. Just don’t be surprised if you get asked for something that makes zero sense... that’s just part of the ride.
