You really do have to question everything, even if it feels awkward. It’s your money on the line.
That’s exactly it. I combed through every line of my estimate and still almost missed a “courier fee” that nobody could explain. It’s tedious, but catching those things can save you hundreds. It’s worth the awkwardness.
I totally get what you mean about the awkwardness. I felt weird asking my lender about a “processing fee” that just seemed to appear out of nowhere, but when I pushed back, they actually reduced it. It’s wild how much stuff gets slipped in if you’re not paying attention. Honestly, I wish I’d known to ask even more questions—some of these fees feel made up on the spot. It’s your money, so being a little annoying is worth it in the end.
