Yeah, you'd think something as straightforward as a fence would actually be... straightforward. I've seen similar surprises pop up during refinancingβ€”clients suddenly discovering they're responsible for parts of a neighbor's driveway or even a random shed that was built years ago. Honestly, I'm always a bit skeptical when someone says their property lines are "definitely" accurate without a recent survey.

Did you end up getting a professional survey done, or was this something you stumbled upon accidentally? Curious how often folks here double-check these details before buying or refinancing. Seems like it's one of those overlooked things that can really bite you later.

Had a client once who found out half his garage was technically on his neighbor's propertyβ€”talk about awkward conversations. Makes me wonder how many people actually bother checking property lines before doing major renovations or additions. Has anyone here ever had to deal with disputes or legal headaches because of unclear boundaries? Seems like something you'd wanna sort out sooner rather than later...

You'd be surprised how often people skip this step. Had a similar headache a few years backβ€”bought a fixer-upper intending to flip it, only to find out the fence line was off by nearly 4 feet. Neighbor wasn't thrilled, and neither was I when the surveyor handed me that bill. Lesson learned: always double-check boundaries yourself, even if the seller swears everything's legit...

Totally agree with you on this one. It's surprising how many folks just assume fences or hedges mark the actual property lines. Had a similar issue myselfβ€”thought I was good to go, but turns out the driveway I'd been parking on for months was partly on my neighbor's land. Thankfully, we sorted it out amicably, but it could've easily turned messy. Always worth spending a bit upfront on a proper survey...cheaper than dealing with disputes later.

Yeah, that makes sense. Curious, did your survey uncover any easements or unexpected zoning restrictions? I've seen those pop up and cause headaches even when property lines are clear... Glad you sorted it without drama though.
