I swear, every time I refi, I start wondering if the underwriter’s just sitting there with a bingo card—“Ah, missing bank statement, that’s a square!” Ever had them ask for a document you already uploaded twice? Makes me question my sanity. Is it just me, or do they always wait till Friday at 4pm to ask for “one more thing”?

I swear, the Friday 4pm request is a rite of passage at this point. Here’s my personal refi checklist: 1) Upload everything twice, 2) Prepare for random “missing” docs, 3) Keep snacks handy for stress eating. I once had them ask for a W-2 from a job I left five years ago—like, do they want my high school report card too? Ever get the “we need a letter explaining that $42 Venmo transfer”? What’s the weirdest thing they’ve asked you for?

Honestly, it’s wild what underwriters will dig up. I’ve seen requests for explanations on $10 PayPal transfers to “Mom”—as if that’s some kind of suspicious activity. The “missing” docs thing drives me nuts too. Pro tip: keep digital copies of everything, even stuff you think you’ll never need again. It feels excessive, but it really does speed things up when they come back with those random asks.

- Not even kidding, I had to explain a $15 Venmo to my brother labeled “pizza.” Like, what do they think we’re smuggling—pepperoni?
- The “missing” docs thing is the worst. I swear, every time I upload something, they come back asking for the same thing but with a different date or a signature I missed. It’s like a scavenger hunt, but way less fun.
- I get that they have to be thorough, but sometimes it feels like they’re just making sure you’re paying attention. Or maybe they’re bored? Who knows.
- Keeping digital copies is smart, but honestly, who expects to need a pay stub from 2018? I’m not running a personal archive over here. Still, I started scanning everything after my last refi dragged out for two months because they “couldn’t find” my tax return (which I’d already sent twice).
- The process is slow for everyone right now, but it does feel like some lenders are just... extra. I’ve heard stories from friends who closed in three weeks, and others who waited three months for the same basic loan. No rhyme or reason.

Not sure if it’s normal, but it’s definitely common. I try to remind myself it’s just part of the deal, but yeah, it gets old fast. At this point, if they ask for my kindergarten finger painting, I wouldn’t even be surprised.

Yeah, this is way too familiar. It’s like they’re just waiting for you to mess up so they can stall another week. I get the need for all the paperwork, but half the time it feels like busywork. One thing that helped me was keeping a running list of what I sent and when—sometimes you have to remind them you already uploaded it. Not perfect, but it saved me a few headaches.
