Had something similar pop up last-minute once - turned out it was buried in the fine print as an "administrative" charge. Now I always request a full breakdown of fees upfront. Definitely worth double-checking everything...

Totally agree here - variable rates can really bite if you're not careful. I'd lean toward fixed payments myself, especially if your budget doesn't have much wiggle room... peace of mind counts for a lot.
