Honestly, I get where you’re coming from—it can feel like the VA is just looking for reasons to slow things down. But I’ve seen a deal nearly fall apart over a missing handrail on a basement staircase, so I always tell folks it’s better to be nitpicky up front than scrambling later. The chipped paint thing drives people nuts, but it’s wild how fast those little fixes can snowball if you wait. You’re spot on about prepping ahead—saves a ton of headaches.

- Had the same thing happen during my refi—inspector flagged a loose outlet cover and a tiny patch of peeling paint in the garage.
-

“it’s wild how fast those little fixes can snowball if you wait.”

- Couldn’t agree more. Thought I’d breeze through, but ended up scrambling for a handyman last minute.
- Honestly, it’s annoying, but catching stuff early really does save stress.
- Still think some of the rules are overkill, but I get why they do it.

Man, I swear inspectors have a sixth sense for finding the tiniest things. Loose outlet cover? That’s like their bread and butter. I get that safety matters, but sometimes I wonder if they’re just bored and looking for something to write up. Anyone else ever feel like you fix one thing and suddenly notice five more? It’s like home repair whack-a-mole. Still, I’d rather deal with it now than have it bite me later... but yeah, some of these rules are a little much.

That’s the truth. When I bought my place with a VA loan, I thought I’d done a pretty solid job fixing up the obvious stuff—paint, leaky faucet, even patched a bit of drywall. Inspector comes in, and suddenly it’s all about a missing GFCI sticker and a window that “doesn’t latch smoothly.” I mean, the window closes, but apparently that’s not enough.

I get that they’re looking out for safety, but sometimes it feels like they’re just trying to justify their fee. Still, I can’t really argue with catching things early. My neighbor ignored a “minor” electrical thing and ended up with a way bigger bill down the line. Guess it’s better to be annoyed now than broke later... but yeah, some of these rules are a little much. VA loans are great, but man, they don’t let anything slide.

Honestly, I’ve had the same experience—thought I’d nailed all the “big” stuff, then got dinged for a bathroom door that didn’t latch perfectly. It’s wild what they notice. Did you end up fixing everything yourself, or did you have to call in pros?
