Had something similar happen to a friend once—turned out to be some shady timeshare deal he signed up for on vacation years ago and completely forgot about. Could be interesting if your character starts digging into their past a bit. Maybe they find out someone else used their identity to make the purchase, or they genuinely did buy something but under weird circumstances (like sleep deprivation, medication side effects, or even hypnosis?). You could also play around with the idea of a scam—maybe the letter itself isn't legit, and your character starts noticing other strange things happening around them, like being followed or their phone acting weird.
