Is buying new worth the hit, or better to grab used and save?

Good points there, especially about downtimeβ€”nothing worse than your washer dying mid-cycle with a load of soaking towels inside (been there, done that...). Do you usually factor in how easy it is to find replacement parts or DIY repairs? I've found some brands are way easier to fix yourself, which can tip the scales toward used. But yeah, warranties do save headaches sometimes. Guess it depends on your comfort level with risk and tinkering.

I've definitely been burned by used appliances before, so I tend to lean cautious. Usually, I'll do a quick check online firstβ€”see if replacement parts are easy to find and reasonably priced. If there's a ton of DIY repair videos available, that's a good sign. But honestly, if it's something critical like a washer or fridge, I prefer the peace of mind from a warranty. Downtime can be costly and stressful, especially if you're juggling work and family... learned that the hard way!

I get your point about warranties and downtime, but honestly, sometimes the savings from buying used can be significant enough to justify the riskβ€”especially if you're careful about brands known for reliability. I've seen clients save hundreds going used, and that money can go toward other home improvements or even emergency repairs. Curious though, have you ever tried refurbished appliances from reputable dealers? I've heard mixed things, but some swear by them as a good middle ground...

I haven't personally gone the refurbished route yet, but I've done some research into it. Seems like the key is finding dealers who offer solid warranties and transparent refurb processes. Do you know if certain appliance types (like fridges vs washers) tend to fare better refurbished?

I actually grabbed a refurbished fridge about two years ago from a local dealer, and it's been pretty solid so far. The dealer gave me a 1-year warranty, and luckily, I never had to use it. I was a bit skeptical at first, especially with bigger appliances, but after this experience, I'm open to trying refurbished washers or dryers in the future. From what I've heard, washers might be trickier due to moving parts and wear, but that's just anecdotal...
