Couldn't agree more, though in my experience it also helps to proactively request a detailed checklist from your lender upfront. Mortgage companies often have slightly different requirements, and having their exact list from day one saves you from scrambling later. I usually create folders (physical or digital) labeled clearly for each category - income docs, bank statements, etc. - and tick them off as I go. Makes the whole process smoother and less stressful... especially when you're budget-conscious and can't afford surprise delays.

I've learned quickly that being proactive helps, but sometimes it feels like trying to herd cats. Anyone else feel like lenders speak a completely different language?
Proactive communication definitely helps streamline the mortgage process. However, it's equally important to thoroughly understand the lender's internal processes and timelines. I've noticed that many delays stem from misunderstandings or incomplete documentation. By carefully reviewing requirements upfront and promptly addressing any requests, you can often preemptively resolve potential roadblocks.

Patience definitely helps, but I'd argue that proactive management can make a bigger difference. I've found that clearly setting expectations upfront and regularly following up - politely but firmly - can significantly speed things along. Waiting passively for lenders, big or small, often just prolongs the process. Sometimes you have to push a bit to keep the wheels turning...

Haha, honestly, sometimes it feels like both. I've seen cases where paperwork sits untouched for days, then suddenly everything needs to be signed yesterday. Makes you wonder if there's a hidden camera somewhere watching us sweat. But seriously, I think it's mostly just layers of approval and outdated systems slowing things down. Have you noticed any difference when dealing with smaller lenders versus the big banks? Curious if others have had smoother experiences there...
