Couldn't agree more, though in my experience it also helps to proactively request a detailed checklist from your lender upfront. Mortgage companies often have slightly different requirements, and having their exact list from day one saves you from scrambling later. I usually create folders (physical or digital) labeled clearly for each category—income docs, bank statements, etc.—and tick them off as I go. Makes the whole process smoother and less stressful... especially when you're budget-conscious and can't afford surprise delays.
