I totally get what you mean about the paper trail—sometimes it feels like they want a biography for every transaction. I’ve noticed lenders seem to be scrutinizing accounts more closely lately, maybe because of all the fraud headlines. One thing I always tell folks: before you even start house hunting, take a look at your last few months of bank statements and flag anything that might raise questions. Have you ever had a deposit or transfer that was hard to explain? Sometimes even a gift from family can turn into a paperwork marathon...

Totally feel you on the “biography” thing—my lender once asked about a $50 Venmo from my sister for pizza night. Like, do they want the receipt for the pepperoni too? It’s wild. But yeah, better to catch those weird deposits early than scramble later.

Honestly, I started keeping a spreadsheet of every transfer in and out of my account just in case. It felt a bit overboard, but when my lender flagged a $30 PayPal from my roommate for utilities, I was glad I had notes. It’s a hassle, but I’d rather be over-prepared than risk the process getting delayed.

- Same here, I started tracking every little thing after my bank questioned a Venmo for pizza.
- It feels like overkill, but I’d rather have too much info than scramble to explain random deposits.
- Is it normal for lenders to ask about every single transfer, even the tiny ones? I’m worried I’ll miss something and hold up the process.
- Did anyone else get asked about cash deposits from months ago? That tripped me up.

Honestly, it does feel like overkill sometimes, but lenders are just super cautious these days. I’ve seen underwriters ask about $15 Venmo transfers for coffee runs—no joke. If it’s not a regular paycheck or direct deposit, they want to know where it came from. Cash deposits especially raise eyebrows, since there’s no paper trail. It’s annoying, but having notes or screenshots handy can save you a headache later. The process isn’t perfect, but it’s better to be over-prepared than stuck waiting because of a random $20 transfer from three months ago...
