I'm about to dive into the whole mortgage thing soon (yay adulting...), and I'm kinda torn between using a mortgage broker or just going straight to a lender myself. I've heard brokers can get you better deals sometimes, but then again, going directly to a bank or credit union seems simpler somehow. My cousin swears by her broker, said he saved her tons of headaches and paperwork, but my coworker told me he got a great rate just by walking into his local credit union and asking around.

Honestly, I'm leaning toward convenience because paperwork gives me anxiety, haha. But saving money is also pretty high on my priority list right now (thanks inflation). If you've been through this recently, I'd love to hear which way you went and if you'd do it differently next time.

I went direct to my credit union because I already had accounts there, and honestly, it was pretty smooth. But if paperwork stresses you out, a broker might be worth it... Did your cousin mention if the broker charged extra fees?
