We started throwing in an extra hundred or so every month toward the mortgage about 5 years ago, nothing huge, just whatever we could spare. Honestly didn't think it'd make much difference. But last week we paid off the whole thing early...feels unreal. Has anyone else done something similar?

Congrats, that's a solid achievement. We did something similar—added about $150 extra each month. At first, it felt like we were barely chipping away, but when I ran the numbers after a few years, the interest savings alone was eye-opening. It's surprising how those small amounts compound over time. Enjoy the freedom of being mortgage-free...it definitely changes your financial mindset.

That's a great point about the compounding effect—people often underestimate how powerful it can be. Did you find yourself adjusting your budget elsewhere to make room for that extra payment, or was it more of a natural shift in spending habits over time? I've noticed with clients that once they start seeing the impact of even small additional payments, it tends to motivate them to trim unnecessary expenses elsewhere. Also curious, now that you're mortgage-free, have you thought about redirecting that monthly amount toward other financial goals like retirement savings or investments? Sometimes people overlook the opportunity to keep that momentum going...
