I totally get what you mean about misplacing stuff. When I started my mortgage application, I was convinced I’d saved every doc I’d ever need, but then the lender asked for a pay stub from over a year ago. I tore my apartment apart looking for it. Digital is great until you forget which folder you put things in, though. Do you ever get nervous about uploading sensitive docs, or am I just too paranoid?

I get nervous about uploading docs too, honestly. Even with all the “secure portal” talk, I still double-check the URL and sometimes wonder if I should just hand-deliver a USB drive instead. One time, I sent a bank statement to the wrong email address by accident—talk about stress. Do you use any tricks for keeping your digital files organized, or is it just a constant battle?

Hand-delivering a USB drive—now that’s commitment. I get the paranoia, though. I’ve definitely had those “wait, did I just send that to my plumber instead of my broker?” moments. As for organization, I try to keep a “Refi” folder on my desktop, but then I end up with like five versions of the same document because I’m scared to overwrite anything. Anyone else have a graveyard of old PDFs they’re too nervous to delete?

- Same here—my desktop’s basically a digital junk drawer at this point.
- I always think, “What if I need that old version for some random reason?” Never happens, but still can’t hit delete.
- For me, naming files with dates helps a bit (like “RefiStatement_2024-06-10.pdf”), but it’s not foolproof.
- Anyone actually use cloud storage for this stuff, or does that just add another layer of confusion?

I swear, my desktop looks like a crime scene after every refi. I tried using cloud storage once, thinking I’d finally get organized—ended up with “FinalFinal_REFI” in Google Drive, Dropbox, and my email. Still no clue which one’s actually the real final. Anyone ever just print everything and shove it in a shoebox? Not saying it’s efficient, but at least I can find the box... usually. Does anyone actually trust cloud storage to not eat their stuff, or am I just paranoid?
