Borrowed from a friend instead of the bank and it worked out great

Yeah, I've seen it go both ways. Even with

"clear communication and setting boundaries upfront"
, life throws curveballs—job losses, health issues—that can strain things unexpectedly. Curious though, would you feel comfortable lending money to a friend yourself, knowing these risks?

I get what you're saying—life's unpredictable, and even the best intentions can go sideways. Personally, I'd lend money to a friend, but only if it's an amount I'm okay never seeing again. Learned that the hard way when a buddy lost his job right after borrowing from me. He felt terrible, and I felt awkward bringing it up. Eventually, he paid me back, but it took way longer than planned. So yeah, I'd do it again, but cautiously and only if losing it wouldn't mess up my own finances.

That's exactly the mindset to have. Lending money can get messy fast...been there myself. Good on you for handling it thoughtfully and keeping your finances safe.

Yeah, totally get that. I borrowed from a friend once when refinancing my house—it worked out fine, but honestly, it added a weird layer of pressure I didn't expect. Even though we were both chill about it, I found myself feeling awkward whenever money came up in conversation. Curious if anyone else felt that subtle tension after borrowing from friends, even when things went smoothly?

I hear you on the subtle tension thing. I borrowed money from a buddy once to consolidate some credit card debt, and even though I paid him back quickly, I still felt weirdly self-conscious whenever we hung out. Like, if I bought something new, I'd wonder if he was silently judging my spending habits, haha. It wasn't messy exactly, but it definitely made things feel...different. Probably wouldn't do it again unless absolutely necessary.
