- Totally hear you on the follow-up fatigue. There’s a fine line between staying on top of things and just spinning your wheels.
- Agree that getting clear checkpoints upfront is key. I always ask for a rough timeline, then set reminders to check in only if those dates slip.
- One thing that helped me: I requested access to the lender’s online portal, so I could see status changes without bugging anyone. Not all lenders have this, but worth asking.
- Delays from underwriting are brutal and, yeah, usually out of everyone’s hands. Had one where they flagged a minor credit report issue and it sat for days until someone finally picked it up… nothing I could do except wait.
- If you’re running into communication dead-ends, sometimes looping in a supervisor or asking for a different contact can shake things loose—just don’t overdo it or it can backfire.
- Honestly, keeping your own docs super organized and responding lightning-fast to any requests is about the only thing you can control. The rest? Gotta just ride it out sometimes.

Honestly, lenders drag their feet way more than they admit. I’ve had deals stall for weeks over the smallest things—once it was a missing middle initial on a form. If you’re not getting answers, escalate. Time is money, and you shouldn’t have to babysit them.

I get the frustration, but sometimes escalation just leads to more bureaucracy, in my experience. Have you checked if there’s a specific underwriter assigned? I’ve found that direct contact with the actual decision-maker (not just the loan officer) can shave days off the process. Also, did they give you a checklist up front? Missing docs—even tiny stuff—can stall things, but sometimes it’s on their end and not yours. Curious if you’ve tried pushing for a clear timeline from them?

Totally agree—when I called the underwriter directly, things actually started moving. Loan officers seem nice but sometimes they’re just middlemen. I also had to double-check their checklist...they’d “misplaced” a doc on their end. It’s wild how something tiny can hold up the whole thing. Honestly, I wish they’d just give a real timeline instead of vague updates every week.

Yeah, the “weekly update” thing drives me nuts. It’s like, just tell me what’s missing and who actually needs to see it. I had a doc stuck in limbo for almost a week because the loan officer didn’t realize the underwriter hadn’t even looked at it yet. It’s almost like playing telephone…except my house is on the line. Would be nice if they just looped everyone in from the start.
