Waiting forever on my refinance loan approval—is this normal?

Went through this refinance maze myself recently, and yeah...it was a bit of a circus. Had all my paperwork neatly organized (digital folders ftw), but still got hit with random requests like "Can you resend your pay stub from two months ago?" or "We need a clearer copy of your driver's license." Felt like they were just spinning a wheel of random document requests. Snacks definitely helped keep me sane, though coffee might've just upped my irritation levels, lol. Hang in there—sounds pretty typical unfortunately.

Haha, seriously, this is exactly how it felt for me too. I swear at one point they asked me for a clearer copy of a document I'd already sent three times—like, how much clearer can a PDF get? 😂 Snacks were definitely my coping mechanism as well, though I think I went through an unhealthy amount of chips during the process.

Did anyone else get the random "we need proof of your address" request after you'd already sent them utility bills and bank statements? I ended up sending them a pizza delivery receipt out of sheer frustration...and weirdly enough, they accepted it. Makes me wonder if they're even looking closely or just ticking boxes.

Curious if anyone's refinance actually went smoothly without these random hiccups, or is this just the universal experience we all have to endure?

Honestly, my refinance was pretty straightforward. They did ask for a few extra docs, but nothing too bizarre—definitely no pizza receipts involved. Maybe it depends on the lender or even the loan officer handling your file...

Your experience sounds pretty smooth compared to some I've seen lately. From what I've noticed, it really does vary a lot depending on the lender and even the specific person handling your file. I've had refinances that sailed through in just a couple weeks, and others where it felt like they were digging for buried treasure in my paperwork—though thankfully no pizza receipts yet either!

One time, though, I did have a lender ask for documentation on a tiny side gig from years ago that I'd completely forgotten about. Took me ages to track down those records, and honestly, I still don't know why they cared so much about that particular detail. Sometimes it feels like they're just ticking boxes or maybe covering themselves for compliance reasons.

If you're feeling stuck or frustrated, it might help to gently nudge your loan officer every now and then—just politely checking in can sometimes move things along. And if you notice they're repeatedly asking for the same documents or something seems off, don't hesitate to ask questions. It's your refinance after all, and clarity is always helpful.

Hang in there... refinancing can test anyone's patience, but most of the time it eventually gets sorted out. Fingers crossed yours wraps up soon without any more weird document requests!

This resonates with me. Compliance requirements have definitely tightened up in recent years, and lenders seem to be extra cautious about covering all their bases. I've seen similar delays on my end, especially with commercial loans. One lender recently requested documentation on a minor partnership from nearly a decade ago—honestly, it felt excessive at the time, but later I learned they were double-checking against some new regulatory standards.

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed whether certain types of refinances (cash-out vs. rate-and-term, for example) tend to trigger more scrutiny or delays. From my experience, cash-out refinances always seem to involve more paperwork and back-and-forth questions, but maybe that's just anecdotal. Has anyone here experienced smoother processing with one type of refinance compared to another?
